First off, this is an invitational event.
If you’ve been invited it’s because we’ve seen your art, we dig it, and we think it would be fun to connect with you for a day of waves and art with our toes in the sand. Below is all the info you need to keep track of the moving parts we’ve set in motion. And free tacos. Really.
If you haven’t been invited but are curious about our selection process, we’ve posted guidelines for you here.

Judging and Criteria
Judge: Victoria Huff SDSFF Official 2017 Artist
Criteria: As stated on the flyer, participants will be judged on a set of elusive and dodgy criteria… Just know that there will be three trophies awarded when the dust settles, and that she is open to bribes.
Trophies? Yep, trophies. My daughter is making them now. Here’s what she made for us last year… straight off the beaches of Humboldt county.
Award Ceremony: Saturday Night, May 13 @ 9pm @ Misfit Gallery
(Basically make a day of it if you can. Surf, make some art, grab some tacos, catch a film or three and catch up with folks at the Surf Film Festival and talk art with folks there, maybe hit Pescador Fish Market for a grindy good meal, then go see if you found favor with the queen of the day in the form of a bitchen little wood trophy and all the bragging rights you could ask for.)

Show Hangs: May 4
Opening Reception: Saturday May 6, 6-10pm
Okay, we know this is a bit of an extra since we’ll be having the beach event and awards ceremony a week later on the 13th, but this is a chance to connect with a bit more of the art-minded folks that frequent the Misfit Gallery as oppossed to the flotsam and jetsam of scurvy surfer blokes that attend the Surf Film Festival each year and will be packing the place on the 13th. We’ll bill this as a chance to relax and meet the artists before the mayhem unfolds a week later. Certainly optional, but we wanted to make this available for you all.
Awards Reception: Saturday May 13, around 9pm. (In conjunction with closing night award ceremony for San Diego Surf Film Festival. It will be nuts. The art is just one part of a mulit-faceted night here.)
Artwork Pickup: May 28-31 Call or email Pierce or Petra for arrangements so they know when to expect you
Gallery commission on sales: 50%
Number of pieces: depends on size, consider bringing enough to fill an 8′ x 8′ wall as you see fit, and that should be more than enough work with to fill the space. All work should be ready to hang on the wall.
Art Information Titles, sizes, mediums, prices etc will need to be provided before or during drop off.
Artist’s Statement, Bio, etc… optional but encouraged.
